🧠Back to Basics: Mixed Methods for Continuous Learning & Growth
Being intentional with structured and unstructured forms of learning
One to two years ago, my learning style centered on consuming content:
Reading books
Reading blogs
Listening to podcasts
This year, it appears as though my learning style is transforming to center around creating content myself or creating content with others.
For example:
Back in July 2022, I started (unintentionally) laying this foundation. JJ Rorie hosted me on her podcast, Product Voices, to talk about this very topic of continuous learning for product managers and its impact on our mental health.
In February, Product Mind Community shipped two interviews that I facilitated with fellow members and product leaders:
Lori Edwards shared the impact that self-reflection has had for her personal and professional accolades:
Jennifer Spanos shared her path to earning her seat at the C-suite table as a product executive:
At the end of February 2024, I competed in the Women in Product Toastmasters Club’s annual speech contest, and won!
I get to represent our tiny yet mighty club at the Women in Product 2024 Conference in mid-May.
Fresh off the press (as of yesterday), I won Toastmasters International’s Area-level contest, and have the opportunity to continue representing my club and presenting my speech at the next level of contest—at the District-level!
I’m also humbled to join Cohort 5 of In the Lab Product Management, a passion project of Emily Patterson, and work with a team of like-minded peers to ideate, build, and ship a working prototype over the next three months.
💜 Please give Lori, Jennifer, and Emily some love.
I invite you to reflect on how your learning methods have ebbed and flowed over the course of your life.
Thanks for listening to this month’s musings! Wishing you a successful March ahead. 🙏
