Day 24/30: Comfort zones and happy places
What makes you feel completely content with being in the present moment? ๐
Happy holidays! If you donโt celebrate, I hope you have the time to decompress before we ring in the new year. ๐
We spend approximately one-third of our entire lives working.
Iโve never been one for compartmentalization between life and school/work. I love switching between the two contexts on-the-fly.
Work is the means by which I fuel the rest of my life; life teaches me principles that I can apply at work.
Life is too short to not optimize for fulfillment, so Iโve found activities that bring me into a sense of being in bliss. Here are some of them:
Synthesis. I enjoy the sense of flow that I experience when I conduct research from multiple angles about a topic; document or map out connections between different sources of information and data; and extract higher-level themes or insights. ๐งฉ
Self-reflection. This time is sacred, as this is when I process the feelings I sometimes put off dealing with. Itโs also proven to be the source of many important revelations about my personal value system. ๐
Learning. My mind gets bored relatively easily, so new mental stimulation is always appreciated. The more I learn about our world, the more I realize there is to learn about it. Itโs like the gift that keeps on giving. ๐
Spending time with people one-on-one or in more intimate, small group settings. I tend to the introverted side, yet I love being with people, listening to their stories, hearing their passion exude when theyโre talking about something theyโre genuinely interested in, and learning from the gold mine of wisdom that is their lived experiences.
Putting together a presentation. Since Iโve joined the Women in Product Toastmasters Club, Iโve gotten so much joy out of thinking through the story arc for each of my prepared speeches, experimenting with new techniques or formats, and designing an accompanying slide deck.
๐ The Women in Product Toastmasters Club is always looking for guests and new members. Contact membership@wiptoastmastersclub.org for more information about our club, or to receive an invite to sit in as a guest at our next club meeting.
And Iโm always looking for new activities. ๐ค
Iโd love to know what activities bring you joy. ๐
